Maria Island is a great asset to the state of Tasmania. The Island has abundant natural and historical interests which form the most fascinating national park in Tasmania. For a child, there could be no more complete educational experience housed in one location.
Part of this attraction are the Aboriginal history, the buildings and the ruins of the two convict and industrial eras, geological interests including the Fossil and Painted Cliffs, many amazing bushwalks, flora and a diverse range of animal life and a valuable marine park.

Accommodation:
Basic bunkhouse-style accommodation is available in the Penitentiary at Darlington. There is also a camping area and hot showers.
