Orford

Orford is an attractive holiday area and offers excellent fishing, and beautiful beaches. There are many excellent walks along the coast and into bush land.  There are great views over the Tasman Sea from the Thumbs Lookout. Beyond this bay are the waters of the Mercury Passage, with the strong relief of Maria Island providing a spectacular backdrop to the view.

A visit to Orford should include:
A visit to the inviting beaches and undulating hills.
A walk around the beautiful township and lovely waterfront
A fishing trip off the bridge in the Prosser River
Great views of Maria Island from Raspins Beach.
A spectacular cliff walk from Spring Beach with Stunning views of Maria Island

Orford has a small permanent population. There is however a significant number of non-resident 'shackies' (Australian colloquial term for weekender or holiday home) property owners who come into the area on weekends and during holiday periods. The area is very popular with tourists; the influx of visitors over the summer months (December to February) swells the population to over 3,000.
